Owner = person who owns the item and rents it to someone else who needs it.

How does RentFrog protect the Owner?
The site is specifically designed to bring owners and renters together but we do recommend some renting protection suggestions:
Deposits — When you list your items, you are free to charge whatever deposit you like. Of course, charge too high a deposit and people may not borrow from you, but we recommend placing a deposit for the replacement value of the item. That way you can rent without being concerned about the item when it is away. This is not suitable for larger items like RVs and boats, but consider asking for a deposit that equals your insurance deductable. One important point about insurance — make sure your insurance covers the item if you rent out in a commercial transaction. It is important to check with your provider before proceeding because some may not.
Contract — There are reasons why companies have contracts, and that is to protect everyone who uses their services. You can find several sample contracts on a number of websites. While we do not recommend a specific contract, one of the important points is the claim that holds renters without liability for the use of the item. That means if someone rents your ladder, and proceeds to fall off of it, they understand it is their fault and not yours. Now this doesn't mean you can rent out broken items or things with undisclosed dangers (a boat with holes in the bottom), but with reasonable care you will not have to worry about getting sued.
PayPal — PayPal has been very successful at protecting people and their money. We highly recommend accepting payments (including deposits) through PayPal and paying others using it. By doing so you get all the protections they PayPal offers. When you purchase goods online with PayPal, your transactions are covered by their Buyer Complaint Policy. If they find the complaint in your favor, the amount of the payment, if available from the seller, will be transferred back to your account.
Identity documentation — Know and verify who you are renting to. Check their ID when they pick up the item, and document it. This way there can be no disputes as to who picked up the item and how to find them if necessary.
How do I get the item I want to rent?
This is determined between the owner and renter. If the item is local, go pick it up or find a meeting place to exchange. If it is long distance, have it shipped. This is completely up to both parties involved.
